Sri Lanka have announced the squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup on Tuesday (September 26). The big news is the exclusion of Wanindu Hasaranga as well as Dushmantha Chameera due to injuries.
Dasun Shanaka, whose captaincy role was under pressure according to some reports, will lead the captain as usual in the biggest tournament of cricket.
The other members of the team are as expected except for the inclusion of Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara in the replace of Pramod Madushan and Binura Fernando who were in the Asia Cup squad.
Chameera was first sidelined due to a ruptured pectoral muscle suffered prior to the World Cup qualification in Zimbabwe. After recovering, he was hurt again in the Lanka Premier League in August. He also missed last year's T20 World Cup in Australia due to an ankle issue.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka picked up a hamstring injury in the Lankan Premier League (LPL) for which he missed the Asia Cup too. However, he was on right track to overcome from the injury for the ODI World Cup but he faced a setback in training a few days ago which is ruled him out of the World Cup.
Sri Lanka will open their World Cup campaign with warm-up games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Guwahati on September 29 and October 3, respectively, before facing South Africa in Delhi on October 7.
