Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle recently lauded Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s exceptional performance in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, calling him the next superstar of Indian cricket. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Bhogle highlighted Gaikwad’s potential, especially in light of the retirements of legendary players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
"If you came out of nowhere, saw Ruturaj Gaikwad batting in his last 3-4 matches and you say if he doesn't make it to the team, then this Indian team must be from another planet. He's the next superstar." Bhogle added.
Gaikwad's excellent performance in the series against Zimbabwe, in which India won 4-1, saw him score 133 runs at an average of 66.50 and a strike rate of over 160. He batted three matches from 4 t20is and scored seven runs, including an undefeated 77 and 49.
Furthermore, In a recent interaction with Shubhankar Mishra, former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra shared his insights on the recently concluded T20I series in Zimbabwe. During the discussion, he highlighted Ruturaj Gaikwad as a promising candidate for a leadership role in the Indian cricket team, suggesting he might be a better option than Shubman Gill.
"The Indian team made him (Gill) the captain as they want to give him the leadership experience, which wasn't visible when he led Gujarat Titans in the IPL," he said.
Mishra further elaborated on the possible options for future captains, stating, "There's Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, and Ruturaj Gaikwad who can lead India in T20Is."
