Fast bowler Haris Rauf today became the third fastest Pakistani bowler to pick 50 ODI wickets in the ongoing game against Bangladesh in the Super Four Stage of Asia Cup 2023.
Right-arm Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf became the third fastest overall Pakistani pacer to take 50 One Day International (ODI) wickets. His performance came on Wednesday in Pakistan's first Super Four game at the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh.
As the match continued at a fast pace, Haris Rauf bowled a lightning-fast delivery at 140 kilometers per hour. The ball landed in a difficult spot, making it a challenge for the batsman. Bangladesh's Mohammad Naim tried to play a pull-shot but was a little late, resulting in a lead to the top.
The ball went high in the air and Haris Rauf quickly called for the catch. He quickly moved to the left, positioning himself perfectly under the spiraling ball and completing the catch safely. With this wicket Haris Rauf reached the milestone of 50 wickets in ODI cricket, a significant achievement in his international career.
The 29-year-old sacked Mohammad Naim in his first over to set that record. Rauf drew level with Waqar Younis, who also needed 27 innings to take 50 wickets.
Topping the list are Pakistani pacers Hassan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who have recorded 50 wickets in 24 and 25 ODI games respectively.
Rauf ended up with four wickets and ultimately helped Pakistan defeat Bangladesh for 193.
Previously, Rauf had won three key wickets from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the 2023 Asian Cup Group A match against India, limiting India to 266. However, the game was eliminated with no conducive results.
