Former Indian cricketer David Johnson has tragically passed away after falling from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment in Bengaluru. The 52-year-old was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, medical efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.

According to Kothanur police officials, Johnson is believed to have committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of his house in Hennur. The circumstances surrounding his fall are still under investigation.

David Johnson made his Test debut for India in the Delhi Test against Australia in 1996.He later toured South Africa and played in the first Test there.

In first-class cricket, Johnson had an impressive record, picking up 125 wickets in 39 games, with an average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 47.4. Known primarily as a bowler, he also had a century to his name in first-class cricket, showcasing his ability as a lower-order batter.

In List A cricket, Johnson played 33 games, claiming 41 wickets. His last competitive cricket appearance was in the Karnataka Premier League in 2015, marking the end of his cricketing journey.

Indian Legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble condoled his one-time teammate's death. "Saddened to hear of the passing of my cricketing colleague David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon 'Benny'," Kumble wrote on X.

Also, BCCI secretary Jay Shah too extended his condolences to the bereaved family. "Deepest condolences to family and friends of our former Indian fast bowler David Johnson. His contributions to the game will always be remembered," Shah wrote on X.
