Australia skipper Tim Paine opted to bowl first in batting friendly conditions. England took the charge from the beginning. Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow put on 159 runs in just 19.3 overs. Roy slammed 61-ball 82 with 7 fours and 4 sixes before getting run out.
The carnage was still on with Alex Hales joining Bairstow. The pair added 151 in quick time. Bairstow reached his sixth hundred in 69 balls. It was his fourth ton in last six innings. He made 139 runs off 92 balls hitting 15 fours and 5 sixes.
Jos Buttler was dismissed for 11. Hales got his sixth century in 62 balls, sixth fastest by an Englishman. Eoin Morgan accelerated the scoring rate with his 21-ball fifty, the fastest ever by an Englishman. These two added 124 runs to take the score over 450.
Hales and Morgan were dismissed in the 48th over which helped Australia deny England a 500. Hales hit 147 from 92 including 16 fours and 5 sixes. Morgan became England's leading run-scorer in his 30-ball 67 runs.
England posted 481/6, the highest total in men's ODI cricket and the second-highest in List A cricket.
