Richard Gould, the chief executive of the ECB, confirms that the news of the sacking of Matthew Mott is not true but says that they are always open to assessing different options.

Mott is expected to step down from his position after England's 50-over and 20-over World Cup defenses in the last nine months were marred by dismal campaigns, according to an external story published earlier this week in The Times. Rob Key, the director of men's cricket for England, is evaluating those competitions and speaking with Mott and captain Jos Buttler.

When asked about the incident by BBC Test Match Special, Gould replied as quoted by Wisden, "That's not true. That's certainly not true. Matthew Mott is a really good guy and coach. He's got a great track record and it is the same with Jos.

"We are always assessing options - that is what happens in high-performance sport, you are always assessing your options. You never want to be drawn into being given the dreaded vote of confidence or anything like that. Competitive sport always brings scrutiny and decisions. We'll constantly want to assess our options but we'll always want to do the right thing by the sport, the team and individuals."
