Cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Olympics is one step closer as its organisers presented their recommendation for the sport's inclusion in the Los Angeles Games.

After making its Olympic debut at the 1900 Paris Games, the sport is set to make a comeback at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

This new turn of events follows the official proposal that was submitted by the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for potential inclusion in the 2028 Olympic sports program. The proposal included cricket in the Twenty20 format, along with baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash. Squash was also proposed to be included in the 2028 Olympic sports program. During the IOC session that will take place in Mumbai the following week, it is anticipated that the official approval would be issued.

Greg Barclay, the chair of the ICC, expressed his joy at learning of the suggestion and stated that he is looking forward to a decision being made in the near future.

"We are delighted that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics. While this is not the final decision, it is a very significant landmark towards seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century,” Barclay said.

"I’d like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process over last two years and we look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session, in India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week."
