Royal Challengers Bangalore director of cricket Mo Bobat has hailed Cameron Green as the ideal candidate for them after he moved from Mumbai Indians on IPL 2024 retention day.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) management believes Cameron Green is a “quality, skillful and capable” all-rounder who can contribute in all facets of the game. RCB signed Green from Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal on Sunday, with the massive Rs 17.5 crore deal confirmed on Monday.

Mo Bobat, RCB's new director of cricket, said the franchise was only planning a trade on Sunday morning. He said they had already communicated their stance to the retained and released players and were hoping to make their middle order position in the auction even stronger when the trade offer came in from Mumbai.

Bobat stressed that Green brings a dynamic element to the three-time finalists, citing his impressive batting, bowling and fielding performances. He believes Green's diverse skill set makes him an explosive addition to the RCB lineup.

“He’s an ideal fit for us in this middle-order power role. He is a quality, skilled and powerful batsman. He masters both speed and spin. He has international experience in all formats and I am sure he will enjoy it.” He bats at Chinnaswamy. So it will be really exciting to see him do that. He's also a fantastic bowler and he bowls with pace and bounce, which were certainly qualities we were looking for, particularly in our home conditions. Let’s not forget what an exceptional fielder “That he is. Some of the catches he has taken while fielding at gully recently are really impressive,” Bobat said on RCB Bold Diaries.

Head coach Andy Flower, who is also at the helm of RCB for the first time this year, said the decision was taken after much debate, with the verdict ultimately depending on the all-rounders' importance to the franchise's plans.

“Our focus has really been on the middle order and where we can improve that middle class in case we lose some of our top players at the top, which inevitably happens,” Flower said. "So that's one area, and the other area was finding the right balance between the foreign players and the way we allocate our resources in that area."

“Of course, all-rounders are still important in this day and age of impact players. So we discussed how we can include all-rounders in our squad and what options and flexibility we have if we do that. We spent a lot." "The time spent debating and looking at the player lineups and their different abilities was a fascinating mini-project," he added.

RCB also traded Mayank Dagar in exchange for Shahbaz Ahmed's services to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
