England won by 7 wickets and 36 balls to spare against New Zealand on Thursday (31st August) at Riverside ground, Chester Le - Street. Debutant Brydon Carse' 3 wicket haul and then fifty from Malan helped England win over New Zealand.
England winning the toss and chose to bowl first. Being put into bat first, Fin Allen started off to a flier. He smacked a hat trick of sixes off Luke Wood in the very first over of the innings. But unfortunately that was the only bit of joy throughout the innings. They lost their top three in quick succession. The English bowlers were on top and kept picking up wickets. And didn't leave anything for New Zealand to get some air and momentum. Glenn Philips was the only batter from Kiwi to stand up and score 41 off 39 balls, his this gutsy innings helps Nz post a moderate 139-9 after alloted 20 overs.
Brydon Carse was impressive on his debut. He conceded only 23 runs to pick up 3 crucial wickets. On the other hand, Luke Wood also got 3 wickets. However, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone shared 1 wickets apiece.
In reply of 140, Southee gave Nz a rollicking start as he got rid of Bairstow in the very first over. But since then, England got their mojo back and started to smack the kiwi bowlers at ease. Will Jacks and Dawid Malan had a 57 run stand before Jacks fell to Ish Sodhi. Malan and Harry Brook stitched a 54 run stand partnership where Malan was sent packing after scoring 55 from 42 balls. While Harry Brook was unbeaten till the end. As he scored 43* off only 27 balls and England won the match by 7 wickets and 6 overs to spare.
