BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the cricket board will not change its policy on family stay allowances for Indian players on overseas tours. This comes after former captain Virat Kohli expressed disappointment over the strict rules suggesting that cricket players should get more time with their families during international tours.

Earlier Kohli openly expressed his thoughts on the matter stating that players benefit from having their families around during long tours.

"If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? You’ll be like, yes. I don’t want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility." He added.

Following his remarks speculation arose that the BCCI might reconsider its stance. However Saikia quickly put an end to such discussions.

Saikia, who took over as BCCI secretary in January 2025 after Jay Shah became ICC chairperson emphasized that the policy was carefully designed and applies to everyone in the Indian cricket setup.

"At this stage, the current policy will remain intact, as it is of paramount importance to both the nation and our institution, the BCCI. The BCCI recognizes that there may be some resentment or differing opinions, as in a democratic setup, people are entitled to express their views."

"The policy is applied uniformly to all team members players, coaches, managers, support staff, and everyone involved and has been implemented with the best interests of everyone in mind."

While Saikia confirmed that the rules will not change he did acknowledge that exceptions could be made under special circumstances.

"The BCCI has increased the duration of family members' stay with players during overseas tours, with provisions for relaxing the norms under special circumstances, but this will be done through a proper process."
