Former Australian national cricket team captain Adam Gilchrist has thrown his support behind Jake Fraser-McGurk urging the young batter to step up for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 season. While acknowledging his recent struggles with the bat Gilchrist praised DC for keeping faith in the promising right-hander.

Jake Fraser-McGurk had an explosive debut IPL season in 2024 smashing 330 runs in nine innings at a stunning strike rate of 234.04. Despite his impressive performance DC did not initially retain him. However they used their Right to Match (RTM) card at the auction securing him for a hefty ₹9 crore.

However his form in international T20Is has dipped with just 382 runs in his last 24 matches at an average of 15.91. His recent ODI series against Sri Lanka was also underwhelming where he managed just 11 runs across two innings.

Speaking to Fox Cricket Gilchrist emphasized the need for Fraser-McGurk to deliver early in the tournament. “Delhi have shown great faith in keeping him at the franchise. It’s important he starts well. What I do know of the IPL is that franchises, owners, and coaches don’t tolerate a lack of results for too long.”

Gilchrist also pointed out that IPL pitches especially in Delhi could work in Fraser-McGurk’s favor.“The wicket that he batted on was extraordinarily high-scoring last year. All the offerings will be there. It’s up to him now to keep a level head on those opportunities.”

With Delhi Capitals set to kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24 in Visakhapatnam all eyes will be on Fraser-McGurk.
