Former New Zealand National Cricket Team captain Kane Williamson may not have been picked by any team in the IPL 2025 mega auction, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be part of the action! The New Zealand cricket legend will be joining the Indian Premier League as a commentator this season.

The IPL 2025 season kicks off on March 22 with an exciting opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Star Sports the official broadcaster, has revealed its full lineup of commentators, and Williamson’s name is right there. So even though he won’t be on the field fans will still get to hear his insights throughout the tournament.

Williamson’s IPL history is pretty impressive. He’s a two-time IPL champion first with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016 under David Warner’s captaincy, and then with Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 when they secured their maiden title. Unfortunately his IPL 2025 journey took a turn when he went unsold in the mega auction held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia last year.

After being released by Gujarat Titans who retained only five players Williamson’s IPL playing days were put on hold. Injuries over the last few years have limited his appearances, but his stats still speak volumes. Across 79 IPL matches he’s scored 2,128 runs, a solid achievement.

Joining Williamson on the commentary team will be familiar faces like Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan.
