Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has showered praise on India's rising pace star, Mayank Yadav, following a stellar performance on his international debut. Ali, speaking on his YouTube channel, expressed hope that Yadav will secure a spot in India's squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series, set to begin on November 22 in Perth
Yadav made an immediate impact in India's comprehensive win over Bangladesh in the first T20I, delivering a spell that left fans and experts alike in awe. The young pacer bowled four overs, conceding just 21 runs and claiming one wicket. His debut couldn't have started better, as his very first over in international cricket was a maiden, a significant milestone for any bowler.
Having recently recovered from an injury that sidelined him since the IPL 2024, Yadav's return to top form has been a remarkable journey. He underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, working hard to regain his match fitness.
Basit Ali was particularly impressed with Yadav's ability to clock speeds of nearly 150 km/h :
"It was a dream debut for Mayank Yadav. He started off with a maiden and even clocked 149.9 kmph. He has come from an injury, which is why his speeds have not been 157 or 158. Just imagine if he had been given the new ball instead of Hardik Pandya. He instilled fear. If you guys saw the match, batters did not play him on the front foot. I hope that he remains fit and goes to Australia," Ali remarked.
India's bowling unit was in top form during the match, restricting Bangladesh to just 127 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz offered some resistance with 35 off 32 balls, but the Indian bowlers ensured that the Bangladeshi batsmen couldn't find any momentum.
