Pakistan's all-format captain Babar Azam scored another half-century in the third and final Test match of the historic series against England at Karachi's National Bank Cricket Arena.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Monday became just the sixth Pakistani to complete 1,000 Tests in a calendar year in the Test series against England.

Babar achieved that milestone on day three of the Karachi Test against the English when he hit 45 in his innings. However, Babar was out after 54 score.

The right-handed hitter, who score 78 runs with 123 balls in the first innings, also score 54 runs with 104 balls in the second innings and forged a valuable 110-run partnership with Saud Shakeel.

Those innings also saw the 28-year-old batsman traverse 1,000 runs in red-ball cricket in 2022. Babar now has 1,009 Test runs in eight games in 2022 with an average of 67.26.

The Lahore-born cricketer has three centuries and seven fifties, with his best finish earlier this year being 196 runs against Australia, which was also rated as one of the Test Championship's best innings.

It's important to note that the stylish batter is also the leading runs scorer in all formats this year, with 2,215 runs scored in 46 innings averaging 52.73, including seven centuries and 14 fifties.

Former captain Younis had 1,179 runs in 2006 and another 1,064 in 2014. Mohammad Yousuf tops the table with 1,788 runs in 2006. Other rackets in the list from Pakistan include Azhar Ali (1,198 in 2016), Inzamam-ul-Haq (1,090 in 2000) and Mohsin Khan (1,029 in 1982).

Meanwhile, Babar Azam has surpassed England batter Jonny Bairstow to become the second-highest run scorer in the ongoing 2021-23 ICC Test Championship, behind only Joe Root.

Babar has netted 1,301 runs in 13 Test matches with an average of 61.95, including three centuries and ten fifties, while the former England captain has netted 1,915 runs in 22 Test matches with 53.
