Veteran wrist spinner Amit Mishra climbed to third in the list of all-time wicket-takers in Indian Premier League history when he surpassed Lasith Malinga's tally of 170 wickets in Game 43 of IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Veteran Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Amit Mishra has pulled off a mighty feat in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He passed former Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Lasith Malinga to become the third-best wicket-taker in league history.
Amit Mishra managed the feat in the ongoing IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. He removed Suyash Prabhudessai to complete 171 wickets in the league, surpassing Malinga's tally of 170 wickets.
Mishra further extended his tally to 172 when he received the prized scalp from RCB captain Faf du Plessis in the 17th over of the inning. The wrist spinner finished his three-over spell with numbers of 2/21, helping LSG limit RCB to 126/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
In his 15-year IPL career, Mishra has played 160 games and won 172 wickets with an average of 23.75 and an economy of 7.34 with a five-wicket move to his name. Mishra also holds the record for most hat-tricks in IPL history, having accomplished the feat three times each during his illustrious career in editions 2008, 2011 and 2013.
Notably, Dwayne Bravo has the most wickets in IPL history with 183 scalps from 161 games, followed by Yuzvendra Chahal in second place with 178 wickets from 148 games.
