Former England captain Alastair Cook is likely to retire from all forms of cricket after the current county season. The official news is expected to be announced tomorrow when his Essex side complete their penultimate County Championship game against Hampshire.

Alastair Cook retired from international cricket in 2018 but has continued to play for Essex since his retirement. So far this season he has scored 808 runs in 23 innings at an average of 36.72 with one hundred and three fifties.

It is also reported that after his retirement, Cook will return to the family farm and focus primarily on his media career, particularly with the BBC. The fairytale ending for the legendary batsman would be Essex winning the current and final game of the season and leaving Surrey behind in the fight for the league title.

Alastair Cook is arguably England's most successful Test batsman with over 12,400 runs and 33 centuries in an outstanding 161 games. He is England's leading run-scorer and fifth all-time in Test cricket.
