Afghanistan rope in R Sridhar as assistant coach for historic New Zealand and South Africa series
The ACB said in a statement that this short term stint might turn into a longer-term contract with him.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has signed up R Sridhar as assistant coach for Afghanistan's upcoming crucial series against New Zealand and South Africa. He'll be coaching the Afghans under Jonathan Trott.
R SridharFormer legendary English player Jonathan Trott is the head coach of the Afghanistan, who led them to their glory in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, beating Pakistan, England and were extremely close to the semis. And then in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan reached to the semi-final, for the very first time in Afghanistan's history, beating New Zealand and Australia to get through the semis.
Now Afghanistan have roped in Sridhar, who served India as fielding coach from 2014-21, working as a part of Ravi Shastri's support staff.
Afghanistan have a historic one-off Test series against New Zealand, from September 9 in India and it will be followed by a three-match ODI series against the Proteas, starting from September 18 in Sharjah.
Sridhar began his coaching career in 2001, went on to work with National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, with the India Under-19s at the 2014 World Cup, and with Kings XI Punjab at the IPL and then worked with India's Men's team as fielding coach.
The ACB said in a statement that this short term stint might turn into a longer-term contract with him.
