As the rumors of the Asia Cup not being held in Pakistan spread, when alternative venues were being looked for, the name of Bangladesh also came up. However, due to the rainy season, Bangladesh voluntarily withdrew from the race to be an alternative venue for the Asia Cup. In the end, Sri Lanka got the responsibility of organizing 9 out of 13 matches. There again at this time, rain ruled the tournament. Despite that, the Asia Cup ended well with India’s 10-wicket victory in the final.

The main contribution of curators, and field workers didn’t go unnoticed. Those who got a little free time between the rains put themselves into preparing the field. They kept the wicket and outfield fit for play by staying awake day and night. On the pitch where Mohammed Siraj registered a record-breaking bowling figure, there was a torrential downpour a little while ago. The field workers and curators therefore deserved a gift. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) did not delay in giving that prize or gift.

ACC president Jay Shah called the curator-groundsmen of Colombo and Kandy as 'unsung heroes'. According to him, ACC and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are giving them a prize of USD 50,000 or about 5.5 million taka.

“Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket! The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are proud to announce a well-deserved prize money of USD 50,000 for the dedicated curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy,” Jay Shah said on ‘X’.

“Their unwavering commitment and hard work made the Asia Cup 2023 an unforgettable spectacle. From pitch perfection to lush outfields, they ensured the stage was set for thrilling cricket action. This recognition highlights the critical role these individuals play in cricket's success. Let's celebrate and honour their yeoman services,” he added.
