SUSSEX head coach Paul Farbrace described Worcestershire's Azhar Ali as a "world-class player in all conditions" after the former Pakistani international batsman produced brilliant performances in last week's county championship draw.

The former Pakistani batsman showed his class and experience during a six-hour stint in the crease, helping Worcestershire to a draw against Sussex.

And afterwards, former England assistant coach Farbrace explained that some members of his squad had approached Azhar for tips.

Farbrace praised Azhar's character, noting that some of his team members even sought out tips on how he prepares for games.

"Azhar is an outstanding player and he showed on Sunday that he is a world-class player in all conditions," he said.

"While I would have liked to have seen him from behind earlier, it was a pleasure to see him batting again. He's a fantastic man and a great advertisement for the game, patience with the way he played and setting up the lines. "Ball up," he claimed.

"He was probably the difference between our attempt to get a win and a draw that both sides will learn from."

"One or two of our batters would end up worrying about how he's playing and how he's preparing by the end of the game. That's what county cricket needs. It takes the best players to play county cricket and if we want to protect county.” To make cricket the game we all want we need the best players and Azhar is a great example of that.

"He just plays the game the right way and you can't help but admire such a fantastic player."
