The city of Rajshahi witnessed a landmark event as the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) Women's Trophy was unveiled, marking the inception of the nation’s first-ever women’s three-day first-class cricket tournament. The historic moment was graced by prominent players Nigar Sultana Joty, Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, and Rabeya Khan, who posed proudly with the shining trophy.

This inaugural tournament is a massive step forward for women’s cricket in Bangladesh, aiming to foster greater opportunities for players to showcase their talent in the longest format of the game.

For the first time in history, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to organize the Women’s Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) featuring three-day first-class matches. Scheduled to commence on December 21, this milestone marks a significant step forward for women’s cricket in Bangladesh, allowing female cricketers to experience longer-format games.

Although Bangladesh's women’s team has held Test status for years, this will be their first opportunity to compete in three-day matches. Previously, women cricketers participated in two-day games as part of the BCL. The tournament will emulate the structure of the men’s BCL, featuring four regional teams: North Zone, Central Zone, East Zone, and South Zone.

The matches will be hosted across two venues in Rajshahi: the Bangla Track Cricket Academy Ground and the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium.

The tournament coincides with a busy calendar for the women’s team, who recently concluded a series against Ireland and are set to tour the West Indies next month. Despite the tight schedule, the introduction of first-class cricket is expected to be a game-changer for the players’ skill development.

This tournament is not just a competition but a platform to bridge the gap in longer-format cricket for women in Bangladesh. It showcases BCB’s commitment to fostering women’s cricket and preparing players for future Test matches.
