Tom Latham-led New Zealand were 294/6 overnight with Henry Nicholls setting up a sixth Test ton. Nicholls and Neil Wagner added to West Indies' frustrations as they ended up on 460 in 114 overs in the first innings on a green track.
Nicholls notched up his highest Test score - 174 from 280 deliveries, including 21 fours and a six. None of the other top-order batsmen could register a score of 50 or more. Nicholls and Wagner put on a 95-run stand for the ninth wicket.
Wagner, playing in his 50th Test match, brought up his maiden half-century in just 36 balls. He struck 8 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten 42-ball 66* runs.
