The Netherlands was the only associate member with Test playing teams in the Super League. Much like a fairy tale, the Dutch have made it to the World Cup. This is not the end! Defeating a team like South Africa has created a story to remember for many years. The Netherlands wants to win this time against Bangladesh.
The Netherlands have no other goals than to win. Team captain Scott Edwards said, his team will enter the field to win, “I think we're targeting to win every game. Yeah, obviously had similar campaigns so far – it’s the last four games of the tournament now before the next stage. So, yeah, obviously a big game, as big as any game we come up for. So, yeah, looking forward to it.”
The venue of the Bangladesh-Netherlands match is Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Not only is it close to Bangladesh, but also because of its language and culture similarities with Kolkata, the number of spectators supporting Bangladesh at this venue will be high. However, there is no pressure from the Tigers' opponents.
The captain of the Netherlands added, “I think a lot of the boys are actually really looking forward to it I mean you know we love playing in front of a big crowd and hopefully tomorrow there are supporters, whether they're from India or Bangladesh or wherever they come from. We're just looking forward to putting on a good performance and looking forward to the atmosphere that should be there.”
In five matches so far, Netherlands have opened the innings in each match with off-spinner Aryan Dutt. But Eden's wicket is going to be pace-friendly. Edwards further said, “I don't know if we'll be giving too much away. We've obviously got to have a look at the wicket, go through the Bangladesh batters and see how we want to match up against them. Yes, I don't know if we'll be letting too many secrets out.”
