Canada captain Saad Bin Zafar says after the historic win against Ireland that they will come stronger against Pakistan as well in their next match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Canada beat Ireland by 12 runs for their first victory in the history of T20 World Cup on Friday (7th June) at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Nicholas Kirton's 49, followed by superb bowling efforts from Jeremy Gordon and Dillon Heyliger powered Canada to their maiden win in T20 World Cup.

“It's one game - and one day - at a time, and we're going to come strong against Pakistan as well. It's very important [to get that support]. Cricket is growing in the country,” Saad said. Canada and Pakistan will face each other on June 11. Pakistan lost their first match to USA yesterday.

Match-winner Kirton also talks about his batting. Because of his 35-ball 49, Canada were able to score 137 runs in the scheduled 20 overs. "It's very good to get over the line. I just tried to get in, and tried to get the pace of the wicket. Played a bit up and down, but it was a very good wicket to bat on - to be honest,” Kirton said.

On the other hand, Ireland captain Paul Stirling expresses disappointment after the match. In reply of Canada’s 137 runs, they were only able to score 125 runs and lost the match by 12 runs. "Was a tough loss today. It was certainly gettable. We just need to improve all-round. Hopefully we can show a better game. Huge game [coming up] for us,” Stirling said.
