New Zealand National Cricket Team skipper Mitchell Santner made a huge impact with the ball in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal against South Africa National Cricket Team at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, March 5. The left-arm spinner delivered an absolute peach to dismiss a well-set Rassie van der Dussen swinging the momentum in New Zealand’s favor.

The Proteas were looking solid in their chase of 362 when Santner struck twice to put them in trouble. He first broke a threatening stand by removing SA captain Temba Bavuma at 125/2. Then just as South Africa was rebuilding Santner produced a magic delivery to get rid of talented batter van der Dussen in the 27th over.

On the fifth ball of the over Santner bowled a brilliant delivery that drifted in straightened off the pitch and completely deceived van der Dussen. The South African batter who had scored 69 runs (4 fours, 2 sixes), tried to flick it on the leg side but completely misjudged the line. The ball went past his bat and crashed into the middle stump, leaving the Proteas in deep trouble at 161/3.

At the time of writing, South Africa was struggling at 236/8 while chasing a massive 362-run target. David Miller was still at the crease, fighting a lone battle, but with wickets falling rapidly, the Proteas' chances looked slim.
