The Delhi Capitals have had a fluctuating season in IPL 2024 but are still in the hunt for the playoffs. With six wins and six losses in 12 matches, they have upcoming games against the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, both vying for playoff spots. Despite an improved performance in the latter part of the season, their star Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw, has remained inconsistent.
Last year was forgettable for the youngster, as he struggled to surpass the 100-run mark in eight appearances. Although there have been better performances in 2024, he has yet to hit top form. In 8 matches, he has scored 198 runs at a strike rate of 163.64. He was excluded from the XI in the team's recent win against the Rajasthan Royals, where Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel impressed in the opening positions.
Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram commented on Shaw's struggles in the current season. While Akram acknowledged Shaw's talent, he offered advice to the Indian youngster. Shaw has fallen out of contention for national team spots due to inconsistent performances and off-the-field issues.
“I haven't watched him closely this year, but he has to go back to basics, play first-class cricket and score big. Focus on cricket, not parties,” says Akram.
“He has still got plenty of cricket in him, just go back and play first-class cricket. Get a lot of centuries and make a comeback. That's the only way. There's no shortcut. He has got time on his hands, and that's good for him,” Akram further said.
