Waqar Younis listed his choices for Pakistan's 15-player squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, under the assumption that all injured players, such as Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, and Haris Rauf, regain fitness in time.
In the pre-match show of the fourth T20I against New Zealand at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, Younis chose a formidable top order featuring Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, and Usman Khan to back up captain Babar Azam.
He showed a preference for a spin-heavy lineup among all-rounders, selecting Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Imad Wasim, highlighting a desire for versatility and spin options. Younis strengthened the spin attack further with the inclusion of Abrar Ahmed and Usama Mir as wrist spinners.
In terms of pace, he leaned towards experience, choosing Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir, and a recovering Haris Rauf, leaving out younger prospects Abbas Afridi and Zaman Khan, who are currently playing against New Zealand.
Pakistan are currently playing a T20I series against New Zealand, which they are trailing 2-1.
