Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has recently voiced his disappointment with the national team's bowlers for their attitude toward Morne Morkel during his time as Pakistan’s bowling coach. Morkel, who was appointed to the role in June of last year, resigned six weeks before the end of his contract following Pakistan's disappointing group-stage exit at the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Basit claimed that several bowlers in the squad believed they were superior to Morkel, which he feels contributed to the South African’s ineffective tenure with the team. In a candid discussion on his YouTube channel, Basit remarked, “The Pakistani bowlers consider themselves to be bigger than cricket. They thought that Morkel was nothing in front of us."

Morne Morkel was initially brought in with hopes of improving Pakistan’s bowling unit but left just before his contract expired. Following his resignation, Morkel was slated to take over as India's bowling coach for their series against Sri Lanka, but he missed the assignment due to his father's illness.

Basit also highlighted Pakistan’s recent struggles against Bangladesh, contrasting them with India’s dominant performance in the ongoing Test series against the same opposition.

We got to know the difference. This is the same Bangladesh played against Pakistan, where it seemed as if Pakistan were completely on the back foot. This is the same Bangladesh that whitewashed Pakistan. The difference is of mindset, thinking, and class," Basit added.
