Matt Renshaw (born 28 March 1996) is an Australian cricketer who plays for Queensland in domestic cricket and for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL.

Early Life & Career

Matt Renshaw was born in Middlesbrough, England. His family moved to New Zealand when he was seven and to Australia when he was ten. He attended Brisbane Grammar School.

In the 2015/16 season, Matt became Queensland's top run scorer in the Sheffield Shield. He hit 738 runs with a 43.41 average, including his mammoth 170 in subtle conditions. This made him the youngest Queensland batsman to score a century in the shield's history.

In March 2018, Cricket Australia named Renshaw in their Sheffield Shield Team of the Year after completing 686 runs.

In December 2018 he scored a record for Brisbane senior cricket: 345 for Toombul from 273 balls with 38 fours and 12 sixes.

Prior to the 2019–20 Marsh One-Day Cup, Renshaw was named as one of the six cricketers to be featured during the tournament.

He played for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League from 2018–19 before joining the Adelaide Strikers for the 2020–21 Big Bash League season. He also signed a three-year contract with the Adelaide Strikers in September 2020.

English County Cricket

Following the ball-tampering incident in South Africa and the subsequent nine-month suspension of Renshaw's international team-mate Cameron Bancroft, Renshaw was signed to replace Bancroft as an international at Somerset County Cricket Club for the 2018 English cricket season. 

He made his debut for Somerset on 20 April 2018 against Worcestershire, not scoring 101, exactly half of Somerset's first innings for 202 overall, and scoring 513 runs in six league games with an average of 51.13 for the county, scoring another century in his second match. He also scored 180 runs in six List A appearances for Somerset before his time at the county was cut short after a broken finger.

In February 2019, Renshaw agreed to play for Kent County Cricket Club in the early stages of the season ahead of the 2019 Ashes series. Renshaw played for Kent in a one-day game against Sussex on 21 April 2019, recording the highest score with 109 balls from 111.

International Career

In November 2016, he selected Australia's Test squad ahead of the third Test against South Africa. He then made his Test debut as the opening batsman on November 24, 2016, replacing Joe Burns. Ian Healy presented his debut cap.
In that fourth game against Pakistan at Sydney Cricket Ground, Renshaw scored his first century in the Test, scoring 184 runs and becoming the 133rd Test centurion for Australia.

Renshaw also held the record of scoring 500 Test runs before turning 21 and was the first Australian cricketer to score 524 Test runs before turning 21.

He made his debut for Somerset against Worcestershire on 20 April 2018. He scored 101 points without an out on his debut, which was exactly half of Somerset's first innings total of 202 points. Renshaw averaged 51.13 for 513 runs in his six championship games for the county. He also scored 180 runs in his six List A appearances for Somerset before his tour of the county was cut short by injury.

The third Test saw a ball-tampering incident involving opening batsman Cameron Bancroft, David Warner and captain Steve Smith. Renshaw's recall came before an investigation by Cricket Australia was completed.

In April 2018, Renshaw was awarded a national contract by the Australian Cricket Board for the 2018–19 season and secured a place in the Test squad against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Rise to Glory

In his second Test in 2017, he scored an impressive 71 against Pakistan in the gabba in the poor conditions. Testing at the SCG, he struggled all day one to score his first Test century, eventually coming out with 184 runs. It was the highest Test score by an Australian player his age.

He proved himself again in the February-March 2017 overseas tour of India, scoring half a century in the series' two opening Tests.
