The ICC has announced the nominees of Player of the Month for January 2025. The spinners have dominated the opening month of the year as West Indies' Jomel Warrican, Pakistan's Noman Ali and India's Varun Chakaravarthy have benn listed for the Award.

The spin dominating January sees all the nominees are spinners. Jomel Warrican had his career-best bowling performances in Pakistan, helping his side draw the Test series by 1-1.

In the first Test in Multan, Warrican claimed his career-best bowling figures of 10/101 and scored an unbeaten 31*. But West Indies lost the game by 127 runs. In the second Test, Warrican took four wickets in the first innings and then bounced back with a terrific five-wicket haul in the second, bringing his match figures to an excellent 9/70. He also contributed with the bat as well, scoring crucial 54 runs as West Indies secured a fine victory in the second Test, levelling the Test series by 1-1.

In the entire series, Warrican picked up 19 wickets at a jaw dropping average of just 9.

Noman Ali once again was on top in Pakistan in Tests. In the first innings, he claimed 6 wickets but it was the second Test, where he thrived the most, picking up six wickets in the first innings, which also includes a historic hat-trick, making him the first and only Pakistani spinner to claim a hat-trick in Test Cricket. He then returned with four wickets in the second innings to finish with an impressive match figures of 10/121. Throughout the series, Noman took 16 wickets at an astonishing average of 12.62 in January.

Varun Chakaravarthy was absolutely on his best in January during the five-match T20I series against England. The mystery spinner picked up 3 key wickets at the Eden Gardens, giving away only 23 runs, which helped him earning the Player of the Match Award. In the third T20I, he showcased his ultimate T20I skills, picking up five crucial wickets, conceding just 24 runs. Throughout the series, he picked up 12 wickets at an excellent average of 9.41 and a miserly economy rate of 7.01.
