Gulbadin Naib (born March 16, 1991) is an Afghan cricketer. Naib is a right-handed batsman who bowls fast-medium with his right arm. In April 2019, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) appointed Naib as the new captain of the One Day International (ODI) team ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, replacing Asghar Afghan.

Early Life and Career
Gulbadin Naib was born in Puli Alam in Logar Province, Afghanistan. He made his debut for Afghanistan against Japan in World Cricket League Division Five in 2008 where he made five appearances. He took part in the documentary Out of the Ashes, which followed the team's preparation for the tournament and their lives in Afghanistan. Naib is shown bodybuilding in a Kabul gym and explains that Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of his inspirations.
Two years after the making of the documentary that resulted in Naib losing his place in the Afghan team, he was selected to be part of the Afghan squad for the 2010 Asian Games and played a single game in the games against Hong Kong. Afghanistan won the silver medal in the competition.
T20 franchise career
Naib was chosen to play for Balkh's side in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League in September 2018. A month later, he was included in Sylhet Sixer's squad following the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League draft.
International Career
Naib made his One Day International debut against Canada in the 2011–13 ICC Intercontinental Cup One-Day. Later in the tour, he made his Twenty20 debut against Trinidad and Tobago at the Cricket Canada Summer Festival and made another appearance against Canada during the festival.
Later in 2011, he played for the newly formed team the Afghan Cheetahs in the 2011–12 Faysal Bank Twenty-20 Cup, making three appearances in competition against Rawalpindi Rams, Faisalabad Wolves and Multan Tigers. During the tournament, he scored his first half-century of Twenty20, hitting 68 balls from 42 against the Faisalabad Wolves.
In December 2011, his score of 57 runs from 50 balls in the 2011 ACC Twenty20 Cup Finals helped Afghanistan to an 8-run victory over Hong Kong and secured Afghanistan their third ACC Twenty20 Cup title.
Naib later played in Afghanistan's first One Day International against a nation playing a full member Test when they played Pakistan in Sharjah in February 2012. Naib scored 7 runs in the match before becoming one of Shahid Afridi's five wickets. Pakistan won the encounter by 7 wickets. He was selected as part of Afghanistan's fourteen-man squad for the 2012 World Twenty20 Qualifiers, held in the United Arab Emirates in March 2012.
During that tournament, Naib made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against the Netherlands and played two more T20I games, followed by a further six Twenty20 games in qualifiers against nations that did not themselves have Twenty20 International status. He scored 86 runs in qualifying with an average of 13.50, not failing a high score of 26. Shortly after the tournament he played in two ODIs against the Netherlands in the World Cricket League Championship.
In July 2012, Naib was selected to be part of the Afghan squad for their tour of Ireland as part of their Intercontinental Cup commitments. He played in both of the team's World Cricket League Championship ODIs against Ireland. Although the first match was abandoned due to rain, he claimed his first ODI wicket in the second match when he sacked Niall O'Brien and scored 19 runs from 23 balls before being sacked by George Dockrell. Ireland won the match by 59 runs.
He also made his first-class debut while on tour in the Intercontinental Cup game, where Naib was dismissed for 13 runs by Alex Cusack in his only innings of the game, while taking the wicket from Andrew in Ireland's first innings Balbirnie ended with Numbers of one for 33 from six overs. In August 2012, Naib played in Afghanistan's second ODI against a full member when they played Australia in Sharjah.
In Australia's first innings of 272/8, he threw two overs that conceded 18 runs, and during the innings he ran David Hussey out. In the Afghanistan chase, he hit a quick fire of 22 from 17 balls, including three sixes, before being dismissed by James Pattinson, Australia, who won by 66 carries. During the game, Naib was called up to Afghanistan's World Twenty20 squad in Sri Lanka in September 2012. He scored 44 goals against England and was the only Afghan batsman to hit double figures as the English won by 119 runs.
In April 2019 he was named captain of the Afghan squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In May, just before the World Cup, Naib won six wickets for 43 runs in the second ODI against Ireland. It was his first five-wicket draw and the third-best numbers by a bowler for Afghanistan in ODIs. On June 24, 2019, Naib earned his 100th cap for Afghanistan in the game against Bangladesh. In September 2021, he was named to Afghanistan's squad for the 2021 ICC T20 Men's World Championship.
