This ongoing match at Basin Reserve happens to be the 100th Test match for the Kiwi star. Earlier he also completed playing more than 100 matches in both the ODI and T20I format.
No other men or women in the history of cricket was able to play 100 matches across all three formats, which means the 35-year-old Taylor is the first man to script this record.
Taylor has played exact 100 T20I games as well, as he featured in his 100th T20I match against India on February 2. He has also played 231 ODIs for New Zealand.
Overal Taylor is the fourth Kiwi cricketer to play more 100 Tests. Brendon McCullum, Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori have played 101, 111, and 112 Tests respectively.
Besides Taylor is already New Zealand''s leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs with 7,174 and 8,570 runs respectively. He is also the third highest run-getter from New Zealand in the T20I format scoring 1,909 runs, and he is behind Martin Guptill (2536) and McCullum (2140).
In the longest format of the game, Taylor has scored 7,174 runs with an average of 46.28 including 33 half centuries and 19 centuries. His ODI average for 8,570 runs in 48.69.
"I think I am still good enough to this team by fine enough to field and still hungry to score runs. I am happy for that," Taylor, who made his debut in 2006, said before the start of the Test.
In the ongoing Test match, the hosts won the toss and asked India to bat first. Earlier India won the five-match T20I series 5-0, and New Zealand took the three-match T20I series 3-0.
