There is no Tamim Iqbal, there are two options in the opening pair with Litton Das in the upcoming Asia Cup for Bangladesh. The name of Naim Shaikh, who was Litton's partner in the last two ODIs, may come first. Then comes Tanzid Hasan Tamim, the youngster awaiting his debut.
Tanzid or Junior Tamim have a lot in common with Tamim not only in name but also in batting. Former captain of the Bangladesh team and BCB director Khaled Mahmud Sujon thinks that Tamim's pair with Litton will suit best.
Talking to the media on Tuesday (August 15), Sujon said, “I think Tamim might be the first choice with Litton Das. I don't know, maybe Naim too... I don't think Bangladesh will stop in two matches. If they will play the Super Four of the Asia Cup, there will be an opportunity (to test).”
Although Tanzid Tamim has not yet made his debut for the national team, Sujon has worked with Tamim. He likes this batter very much. Tamim Iqbal was like that when he was a child, thinks Sujon, “I see Tamim... who actually plays like that, what do I expect from them? A great start. He is such a player. If we remember the childhood of senior Tamim, the way he used to bat, junior Tamim bats like that. This is Tanzid Tamim's style. If he keeps it... I want him to keep it. He should not change much. We should not create pressure from outside.”
Careers don't always go the same. Good times come, bad times also come. Therefore, the former captain called on to help Tamim grow his career, “Cricket is such a game - either you succeed or you fail. I think this boy has the potential to go a long way, and become a great cricketer. If he fails in the Asia Cup, I won't worry at all. If he plays his game, he will give Bangladesh a great start.”
