After having a double heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Monday, Bangladesh cricket star Tamim Iqbal is making good progress. After an emergency angiogram, doctors used a process called stenting to clear out his vessels. He was then taken to the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). Even though Tamim's health is much better now, he won't be able to play cricket again for months.
Tamim is now safe and not in immediate danger, but he will be closely watched by doctors for another 48 to 72 hours. Doctors have told him that he can slowly get back to normal physical routines, but that he will need at least 3 months of therapy before he can play professional cricket again.
The doctors at KPJ Specialized Hospital reported to the press on Tuesday that Tamim can now walk short lengths in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). Besides that, he was moved briefly to a private bedroom to be watched before being moved back to the critical care unit for more observation.
During Mohammedan Sporting Club's DPL game against Shinepukur Cricket Club, Tamim quickly had a lot of chest pain and collapsed in the dressing room. He lost consciousness, so the doctors on the field had to help him right away. Because of how bad his situation was, an emergency helicopter was called to take him away. But his health was too bad for a helicopter to take him, so he had to be rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar by ambulance.
Since he was taken to the hospital, Tamim's wife Ayesha Siddiqa, brother Nafees Iqbal, and mother have been with him. There was a rush to the hospital by the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Faruque Ahmed, and several board members to check on him. His friends Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam also came to see him to show their support after their DPL games.
Fans of cricket in Bangladesh and around the world are praying for his full recovery. In the meantime, Tamim is continuing to get top-notch medical care to make sure he can get better before he plays again.
