In a thrilling T20 World Cup 2024 final, Suryakumar Yadav's remarkable boundary catch helped India clinch the title against South Africa in Barbados. The match reached a nail-biting climax with South Africa needing 16 runs off the last six balls, bowled by Hardik Pandya. The dangerous David Miller faced the first ball of the final over, a wide full toss, which he struck towards long-off.
Suryakumar Yadav, positioned at long-off, sprinted to catch the ball just inside the boundary lines. As he crossed the boundary, he neatly threw the ball back into play, returned to the field, and finished the catch. Despite numerous video inspections and social media arguments, the umpires confirmed that the catch was valid, much to the dismay of those fans who questioned its fairness.
Some social media users even speculated that the boundary cushion had been pushed outwards during the second innings to favour India. Addressing these claims, Suryakumar said:
"I didn't touch the line when I caught the ball in the final match against South Africa. We can't keep everyone happy. I did what I believed was correct. By the grace of God, I was there when the ball came towards me. I got a chance to take the catch. I am relishing that moment."
He further explained his preparation, stating, "I had practiced many times to take a catch like that one. During the match, my mind was calm. God gave me an opportunity to do well for the country"
Suryakumar Yadav, who was rested for the ongoing Zimbabwe tour, is expected to rejoin Team India for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka later this month.
