Former India cricketer Suresh Raina recently named the player who will head the Indian national cricket team after experienced opener Rohit Sharma. Suresh Raina passed up Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah as Rohit Sharma's successor as Indian captain.

Hardik Pandya is India's vice-captain, having led the side in 16 T20Is and three ODIs in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah served as Rohit's deputy during the home Test series against England earlier this year. KL Rahul also led the team a few times.

Suresh Raina thinks Shubman Gill, a 24-year-old Indian batsman, has the potential to be the future captain of the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma. Raina made this forecast during his visit to The Lallantop's 'Guest in the Newsroom' segment.

“I would say he will be the next Indian captain. Bann sakta hai vo (India captain after Rohit),” Raina said.

Shubman Gill received praise for his outstanding performance at the 2018 U-19 World Cup. Gill presently leads the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2024. He took over as captain after Hardik Pandya was traded from the Titans to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

The 23-year-old player, who is the youngest captain in the IPL 2024 season, has emerged as GT's leading run-scorer this year. He has an amazing average of 43.83 after scoring 263 runs in seven matches.

Despite the presence of experienced players, Suresh Raina regards Shubman Gill's leadership as excellent. His excellent performances since his breakout in the 2018 U-19 World Cup have caught everyone's attention.

Gill's present role as captain of the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 solidifies his reputation as a promising talent in Indian cricket.

The team was bowled out for 89 runs in their previous match against the Delhi Capitals at home on April 17. The Rishabh Pant-led team completed the chase in just 8.5 overs. Gill scored only 8 runs from 6 deliveries in the most recent match.

The Titans' next encounter will be against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday, April 10, at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The team will be trying to bounce back and go to the tournament's knockout stage.
