Jamie Smith brought up a hundred [111] in the first innings and then scored a vital 39 to help England get over the line.
Kamindu Mendis was on fire as he brought up a terrific hundred to his name amid extreme collapse. He made a fantastic 113 off 183 deliveries. Dinesh Chandimal also joined hands with Kamindu and the former one notched up a fifty, scoring 79 off 119 balls before falling to Matthew Potts. Sri Lanka's lower order was cleaned up quickly as they managed to get only 326 on the board, with a lead of 204.
In reply of Sri Lanka's 205, Asitha Fernando removed Ben Duckett earlier on, while Prabath Jayasuriya had captain Ollie Pope and England were in all sorts of trouble. But Dan Lawrence and Joe Root did the rebuild job before Lawrence fell to Milan Rathnayake on 34.
Root was still there and Harry Brook came up with him, Brook scored a fine 32-run knock, while Root notched up a fifty, scoring an unbeaten 62*. Jamie Smith later on came in and made a brisk 39 off 48 balls and helped England get over the line being unscathed.
