India's talented young batsman Shubman Gill is named the ICC Player of the Month for September after his run-scoring performances in his country's Asia Cup campaign and subsequent ODI series against Australia, while Sri Lankan icon Chamari Athapaththu wins the ICC Player of the Month for September takes the monthly crown after her T20I batting and bowling exploits last month earned her side their first series win on English soil.
Both players will be crowned according to votes cast by global fans registered with icc-cricket.com and an expert panel of ICC Hall of Famers, former international players and media representatives.
The 24-year-old started the month with half-centuries against Nepal and Pakistan before scoring in triple figures against Bangladesh.

Gill, the ICC Men's Player of the Month, has enjoyed a rapid upturn in form in 2023 that has seen him climb the MRF Tires ICC Men's ODI batting rankings and is now within touching distance of becoming the Player of the Month winner August, Pakistan's Babar Azam.
In September, runs poured in for the 24-year-old in ODI cricket. He started the month with half-centuries against Nepal and Pakistan before hitting triple-figure passes en route to the final against Bangladesh in Colombo. Chasing 51 points to win the low-scoring final, Gill remained at the goal circle to watch his team cross the finish line.
After the end of the Asia Cup, Gill shone again in the following series against Australia, scoring 74 runs in Mohali and 104 in Indore from more than one run-a-ball.
His 480 runs in the calendar month resulted in an average of 80 and a strike rate of 99.37.
Reacting to his award win, Gill said: “I am delighted to have won the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of September. It is a great privilege to represent India at the international level and contribute to the well-being of the team. This award will motivate me even more to continue striving for excellence and making the country proud.
“I managed to make a useful contribution to the team that was fortunate enough to win the 2023 Asia Cup and then claim an ODI series win against Australia in September. I take this opportunity to thank all my teammates, my family and the coaches, without whom this success would not have been possible.”
Gill picks up his second 2023 Player of the Month award after beating compatriot Mohammed Siraj and England's Dawid Malan, who both showed outstanding form in the shorter formats of the international game ahead of the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
