Bangladesh Women crushed Pakistan Women by on Monday (25th September). Shorna Akter picked up three wickets and bowlers accompanied her perfectly to bundle Pakistan Women out for a measly 64. Bangladesh Women lost 5 wickets to chase the match.
Bangladesh Women's solid performance led them win Bronze medal in Asian Games 2023.
Earlier, Bangladesh Women won the toss and opted to bowl first. Coming out to bowl, the Bangladeshi bowlers had a brilliant show with the ball to restrict the Pakistan Women for a below par total. Marufa Akter started with a wicket and maiden and nipped out Zulfiqure. The spinners found good assistance and the Pakistani batters were all at the sea. The batters tried to push the accelerator but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Some shambolic running between the wickets also resulted in a few run-outs. None of the batters made a substantial contribution and so they failed miserably to post massive total on the board. They only managed to add 64 on the board after playing 20 overs with Aliya Riaz top scoring with her 17 off 18 balls.
Shorna Akter was pick of the bowlers from Bangladesh Women as she picked up 3 wickets, while Sanjida Akter Meghla also aided her with 2 wickets. Others contributed with one wickets each except Sultana Khatun.
In reply of 65, Bangladesh Women had a brisk start. Courtesy some brilliant batting from Shamima Sultana and Shathi Rani. The opening stand was worth of 27 runs inside the five overs before Shamima Sultana fell to Sadia Iqbal. After the departure of Shamima, Shathi too followed her partner as he got out to Nashra Shandhu for 13 off 19 balls. Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana too couldn’t do anything as she too fell to Nashra Shandhu and Bangladesh were crumbling for 34-3.
Nahsra Shandhu was breathing fire as she picked up another wicket and this time Sobahana Mostary for a sedate 5 off 13 balls. Bangladesh Women were on 43-4 and needing of 22 runs with 6 wickets in hands. And eventually after losing one more wicket and they won the game by 5 wickets.
