Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praises leg-spinner Rishad Hossain much after their win against Sri Lanka in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match on Saturday (June 8) in Dallas.

In the match, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in a thriller. Bangladesh pacers - Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman bowled superbly with lot of variations at the start of the innings and during the death overs as well. While Rishad Hossain provided crucial breakthroughs in the middle over as he picked up Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga in consecutive deliveries to leave Sri Lanka stutter. In the end, Sri Lanka scored 124 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Bangladesh chased down that target with 2 wickets and 1 over in hand.

Rishad was adjudged man of the match for his outstanding bowling in the middle. He took 3 wickets in 4 overs conceding just 22 runs. “He bowled brilliantly. He has been doing well for the last few series. The way he practices, his preparation is very good. We always struggle, we don't have a leg-spinner. This place has been filled for us and I hope he will contribute in the future matches as well,” Shanto said.

With the win, Bangladesh started their T20 World Cup campaign on a high note. On the other hand, Sri Lanka lost two consecutive matches against South Africa and Bangladesh.
