Former New Zealand pacer and Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond recalled his old days with Ishan Kishan during a YouTube show. Shane Bond said that he loves Ishan Kishan and called him a funny guy.
Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has been working as a bowling coach with Mumbai Indians (MI) for a long time and has naturally developed a strong bond with a number of players.
Bond has formed a special bond with dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, who has been an integral part of the MI franchise for half a decade.
The bowling coach also revealed a swear word. Paul Chapman, MI's strength and conditioning coach, nicknamed Kishan "out of love." The camaraderie within the MI team, as Bond's fond anecdote shows, reflects the unique bonds that cricket fosters.
“I love Ishan. He's a funny guy. I love the banter I have with him. Chappy (Paul Chapman) called him a complete idiot (laughs). If you're a complete idiot, you're a total idiot **khead (laughs). We still call him a d**khead, but out of love. When you spend time with these players, you make good friends," said the 48-year-old on the YouTube channel "Wake up with." Sorabh'.
Shane Bond also revealed how net bowlers like Akash Madhwal and Kumar Kartikeya have put in a lot of work to secure a place in the squad. Both bowlers played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023.
“Akash (Madhwal) and Kumar Kartikeya were among the net bowlers. They were included in the squad based on their performance. What I like about them both is their attitude every day. Kumar left home at 16 and came back only when he had achieved something. “Aakash is a smart guy and both of them grabbed the opportunity, which shows their mental toughness to succeed,” said the former New Zealand pacer.
Meanwhile, Bond is set to be replaced by Lasith Malinga as the franchise's bowling coach, with Malinga having taken up this role for Mumbai Indians' SA20 franchise MI Cape Town in the second edition of the league.
