Left-handed batsman Shan Masood has been named captain of Karachi Kings for the next season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), just days after he was named Test captain of the national team.
The 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Karachi Kings have announced Shan Masood as captain for the upcoming ninth edition of the tournament.
Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal made the announcement ahead of the PSL Draft in Lahore.
“Shan Masood will lead the Karachi Kings this year. He is the captain of our Test team but has also captained many teams including Multan Sultans and Yorkshire. We think our captain should be from Karachi,” Salman said.
A few days ago, in a strategic move, the Kings secured the services of Pakistan's new Test captain Masood through a trade deal with Multan Sultans. The deal included parting ways with spinner Faisal Akram. The Kings, who were in search of a captain following the departure of all-rounder Imad Wasim, opted for the experienced leadership of Masood.
Meanwhile, Karachi Kings have appointed Phil Simmons as their head coach for PSL 9. Phil Simmons, known for his dual role as star player and triumphant coach of the West Indies during the 2016 T20 World Cup, brings a wealth of experience and strategic prowess to the Karachi Kings camp.
Masood is now ready to lead the Kings in the upcoming ninth season where the Karachi-based franchise will look to clinch its second PSL title.
We have seen some of the biggest changes in the last few days with players like Imad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Naseem Shah switching teams in completely unexpected ways.
The Kings also swapped their captain and last season's player of the tournament, Wasim, for Ali from Islamabad United.
It is pertinent to note that the PCB released the list of all players acquired by all six franchises earlier, while many big and important names were not acquired by their franchises.
