Shakib hopes to return to the cricket field with the next edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) which is scheduled to start on January 19. Speaking at an event in the USA recently, Shakib confirmed all these.
Shakib said, “I wished to go to New Zealand to play ODIs and T20s. Now the team is going. That's what I was planning. Because I thought that (the finger) would be fine in four weeks. But I saw the doctor here 2 days ago he said to wait for another 2 weeks. Then I’ll slowly start rehabilitation. It's taking longer than it should. It will take about 6 weeks. After that, I don't see many options before the BPL in terms of fitness. There are also elections at this time. I will be busy here. Naturally, I think I will resume from BPL. I will be able to play in a very fit condition from the beginning of the BPL.”
Shakib has been elected as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League from Magura-1 constituency in the next national parliament election with the boat symbol. If he wins the election, he will become a member of Parliament for the first time. The next season of BPL will start from January 19, the final will be on March 1. Shakib will play for Rangpur Riders in BPL.
