Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has thrown his support behind Shan Masood and the Pakistan national cricket team as they prepare to face England in the second Test in Multan. Afridi, along with Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Naseem Shah, was released from the squad ahead of the second and third Tests due to form and fitness considerations.

Despite being left out, Afridi took to social media to wish the team well, writing on X (formerly Twitter), "Wishing Team Pakistan the best of luck! Rooting for a strong comeback. We’re all cheering for you!"

His message of encouragement comes after Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat in the first Test, losing by an innings and 47 runs despite posting an impressive 556 runs in their first innings

Pakistan’s bowling unit struggled to contain England, who amassed a mammoth 823/7 declared in their first innings, leaving the hosts unable to mount a meaningful challenge. Shaheen Afridi, who has been in the spotlight for his performances over the past few months, was among the key players omitted as selectors focused on future assignments for Pakistan’s 2024-25 international season.

Earlier The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement confirming the decision to rest Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, emphasizing the importance of fitness and form heading into a crucial season for Pakistan cricket. Aqib Javed, a member of the national selection committee, stated, “Taking into consideration the current form and fitness of key players and looking ahead to Pakistan’s future assignments in the 2024-25 international cricket season, the selectors have decided to give rest to Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi."
