Legends of Rupganj delivered a dominant performance in a rain-affected match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), comfortably beating Mohammedan Sporting Club by 9 wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Mohammedan, hit by the absence of several key players, never found their rhythm with the bat. Electing to bowl first, Rupganj quickly put the pressure on, and Mohammedan’s batting lineup faltered under consistent bowling pressure.
Openers Tawfique Khan Tushar and Anisul Islam managed a modest 27-run partnership before Tushar (18 off 21) was dismissed by Tanvir Islam. Acting skipper Rony Talukdar, leading the side in the absence of Towhid Hridoy due to suspension, was dismissed for a golden duck.
Anisul Islam tried to anchor the innings with a fighting 35 off 34 balls, building a 42-run stand with Farhad Hossain, but the momentum didn’t last. The experienced Mahmudullah Riyad also failed to make an impact.
Rain interrupted the match in the 30th over with Mohammedan at 117/7, forcing the contest to be shortened to 22 overs per side. Based on the DLS method, Legends of Rupganj were given a revised target of 93 runs.
Chasing a modest total, Rupganj suffered an early hiccup as Tanzid Hasan Tamim was dismissed for a duck by Nasum Ahmed. But that was the only bright spot for Mohammedan as Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar took full control of the chase.
Both batters played aggressive, positive cricket, taking advantage of the shortened format. Saif Hassan remained unbeaten on 55 off 44 balls, hitting six boundaries and three sixes, while Soumya Sarkar contributed a fluent 36 off 33 deliveries* with four boundaries.
The duo guided their side home in just 13.2 overs, sealing a convincing win and strengthening Rupganj’s position in the table.
