Recently, Rishad Hossain has emerged as one of the most talked-about young cricketers in Bangladesh. With his impressive leg-spin, he has been making a mark by unsettling some of the world’s top batters. His standout performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup further cemented his reputation on the global stage.

Following his memorable World Cup display, interest in Rishad has surged. After he gets a team in the Big Bash League (BBL), he has secured a spot in the Zim Afro T10 League. Despite his success in white-ball formats, Rishad has yet to make his Test debut for Bangladesh. However, there are growing calls for him to be included in the Test squad.

While Rishad was not selected for the upcoming Test series against India, national team selector Hannan Sarkar has hinted that he is firmly on the radar. In a recent media interaction, Hannan explained, “Rishad is definitely in our plans for Test cricket. He lacks extensive experience in long-format games. While he is accustomed to 4 overs in T20s and 10 overs in ODIs, Test cricket may require him to bowl 15-20 overs. We have yet to see him handle that workload. We want him to gain experience in longer formats before including him in the Test squad. If Rishad joins the team, it would be a significant boost. A leg-spinner can be a formidable asset in any format.”

The Bangladesh team will tour India for a series of two Tests and three T20s, with the first Test set to commence on September 19 in Chennai.
