Rishad Hossain set a unique example as the first leg spinner of Bangladesh. This is the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup that a Bangladeshi leg-spinner has become one of the top five wicket-takers in the World Cup. However, this achievement has only been made by two other Bangladeshi cricket players before Rishad. Shakib Al Hasan is one of them and Al-Amin Hossain is the other.

The T20 World Cup was held for the first time in 2007. Abdur Razzak was the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in that edition with 7 wickets, 12th in the top chart. In 2009, Naeem Islam was the best among the Bangladeshi, taking just two wickets. In the third T20 World Cup in 2010, Shakib Al Hasan took 4 wickets and was in the 25th place in the list.

In 2012, Abul Hasan was ranked 45th with 2 wickets, the best position among Bangladeshis. But this bad time passed in the next edition. Bangladesh were the sole host of T20 World Cup in 2014. Al-Amin Hossain was the fifth top wicket-taker at the home venue with 10 wickets. India organized the next event. Shakib played in that event in 2016. He was the third highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets, the best by any Bangladeshi bowler in any World Cup so far.

In 2021 too, Shakib was the highest among Bangladeshis, becoming the fourth highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Taskin Ahmed took 8 wickets, the highest among Bangladeshis. Taskin's position was 16th. Rishad Hossain is fifth in the list of wicket-takers by taking 14 wickets in the 2024 T20 World Cup, previously only Al-Amin Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan had the feat of being in the top five.
