The rain continued to interfere the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) even on reserve day. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced the wrath of fans after a long delay in drying out the outfield at Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday.

The Chennai Super Kings have won the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after beating the Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a rainy final in Ahmedabad.

Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was hailed as an architectural marvel when it opened in 2020. However, the stadium's structural flaws were exposed when heavy rain forced the 2023 IPL final to be postponed from Sunday to Monday.

The rain also disrupted Monday's final, causing water to pool on the outfield, requiring ground staff to take action to dry the field.

Rain already played spoilsport on Sunday and forced the committee to postpone the game to May 29 (reserve day). Action was possible in the first inning of the game on Monday, but rain disrupted play after three balls in the second inning.

Ground crew only covered the peloton, leaving the practice areas open to heavy rains. This created stains that increased the wait time after the rain subsided.

Supporters at the stadium and at home were extremely disappointed and frustrated with BCCI after realizing that modern technology was not used to dry the ground.

The incident has also raised concerns about India's ability to host major sporting events. The country is set to host the 2023 World Cup and the structural flaws have highlighted doubts about the stadium's ability to safely host the event.

Play eventually resumed and Chennai won their fifth IPL title after Ravindra Jadeja scored a six and a four in the final two balls as Chennai pursued their revised target of 171 in 15 overs with five wickets remaining in a rainy final went on Tuesday on a reserve day in Ahmedabad past 1.30am local time after sinking on Sunday.
