The ODI series between
and Zimbabwe has been a toe to toe battle so far. After Zimbabwe humiliated Afghanistan in the 2nd ODI like Afghanistan did in the first ODI, Afghanistan have fought back strongly again and secured a comfortable victory in the 3rd ODI to make the series 2-1.
After Zimbabwe opted to bat first, their collapse came with the fall of Brendon Taylor - whose 121-ball 125 had powered Zimbabwe to 333 in the previous fixture. On this occasion, however, Taylor was sent packing for just nine runs, in the eighth over by Mujeeb. Solomon Mire was dismissed in the same over. The Ervine and Raza partnership kicked in until Rashid entered the scene to ruin any plans of another big total. Rashid had Raza and Ryan Burl off successive balls to reduce Zimbabwe to 117 for 5 in the 23rd over. Rashid though, ended both their time in the middle of two overs, to complete his five-wicket haul and end Zimbabwe's essay. In reply, despite losing both openers early,
(56) and Nasir Jamal (50) held innings together and their knocks made way too easy for
and
to finish things off and chase down the total with six wickets in hand.
Brief score
: ZIM 154 (34.3) | Ervine 39 (55) | Rashid 5/25, Zadran 3/45 AFG 158/4 (27.3) | Rahmat 56 (52), Nasir 50 (55) | Chatara 2/18
Result
: Afghanistan won by 6 wickets
