Rangpur Division's bowlers, led by a lethal pace attack, dominated Chattogram Division to secure an emphatic victory by an innings and 81 runs in their National Cricket League (NCL) 2024-25 clash.
Chattogram, following on after being bundled out for 103 in the first innings, struggled once again on the final day, collapsing for just 89 runs, even less than their first innings total. This comprehensive win highlights Rangpur's control throughout the game, starting with their solid first-innings score of 273/9 declared.
Rangpur's pacers Mukidul Islam, Shoriful Islam, and Mamun were in top form, using swing and seam movement to decimate Chattogram’s batting lineup. Mukidul's early breakthroughs set the tone in the second innings, with Shoriful and Mamun adding to the destruction. Chattogram’s batters had no answers to the pace attack, falling in quick succession.
In Chattogram's second innings, Mukidul removed Sadikur Rahman in the very first over. The pressure built quickly, with Shoriful dismissing Sabbir Hossain shortly after. Captain Shahadat Hossain managed just 11 before being sent back by Rizwan, and Mamun's sharp inswinger trapped Yasir Ali LBW. At 40/6, the match was all but over for Chattogram. A late stand between Irfan Hossain and Yasin Arafat added 39 runs, with Yasin top-scoring with 26, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the inevitable.
Rishad Hossain wrapped up Chattogram's innings by bowling both Yasin and Irfan to end their resistance at 89, handing Rangpur an innings victory.
