Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has resigned from his role as senior and junior men's panel selector effective immediately for personal reasons. The resignation comes just five months after a term that was expected to run until mid-2024.
Robert Haynes has replaced Sarwan on an interim basis pending Cricket West Indies (CWI) recruiting a new candidate to fill the vacant position. Haynes, who was a legspinner during his playing days, also serves as one of the junior panel selectors. Desmond Haynes is the head of the current senior men's selection committee, which also includes head coach Phil Simmons.
CWI cricket director Jimmy Adams was disappointed that Ramnaresh Sarwan was not able to continue as selector but also understood the reasons why. He also thanked said person for their contribution to West Indies cricket during this time.
Given his extensive experience in the game, we're disappointed that Ramnaresh isn't able to continue in the Selector role, but we fully understand and accept his reasons. We are grateful for his contribution during the time he has been involved and hope he can contribute in some way to West Indies cricket in the future," he said.
The West Indies are currently in the Netherlands
The West India men's senior team is currently in the Netherlands for their first-ever ODI series against the Netherlands. The series is part of the ongoing ICC ODI Super League, designed to help teams qualify directly for next year's 50-Over World Championship in India. West Indies are currently 10th in the 13-team pool. The top seven and hosts India qualify directly while two remaining spots are decided by qualifying.
The Caribbean is led by new captain Nicholas Pooran, who was appointed to the helm after Kieron Pollard announced his international retirement last month while playing for the Mumbai Indians in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
